Roaming issue in Egypt

Hi,

It seems that roaming on my SIM card is not working in Egypt. According to Odido, my location is still showing as Turkey. I was only in Turkey for transit, but after arriving in Egypt I lost service completely and cannot connect to any network.

This is not my first time visiting Egypt, and I have never experienced this issue before. During my previous visits, I was using an eSIM. A couple of months ago, after my phone was stolen, I replaced it with a physical SIM card, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem.

It has now been three days, and I still have no service. I also contacted Odido customer service using my husband's phone. I was told that I would be transferred to the technical team, but the call was disconnected before I could speak with them.

Roaming is enabled on my phone. There are no outstanding payments on my account, and my subscription is active.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or knows how to resolve it?

Hello @Hoda

Did you have service in Turkey? Try manually selecting another networkprovider.

Hi @Waqqas I had service in Turkey, there was no issue.

I tried to manually select a network provider but I got an error stating can’t connect to the network. I tried all the network providers shown on the list but no luck.

Hi Hoda, how wonderful that you’re on vacation in Egypt. Of course you want to stay connected while you’re there! I totally get that. It's great that you followed @Waqqas advice!

Here are a few helpful tips:

  • Restart your phone as soon as you arrive abroad. This will allow your phone to reconnect to the local network.
  • Turn on roaming. Check to make sure roaming or data roaming is enabled on your phone. Without this, the mobile network won’t work.
  • Turn off automatic network selection and manually select a different network.
  • Check your plan. In My Odido, you can see if you still have enough MBs and call minutes left.

To rule out a few issues, I’d like to ask you to check a few more things on your phone:

  • Check if your device’s software is up to date.
  • Reset your phone’s network settings.

*Android: Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

*iPhone: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

(Please note that you’ll need to reconnect any linked devices afterward.)

  • Check that the APN name is set correctly. It should say internet.mobiel. Does it say something else? If so, adjust this manually through your device’s settings.

If these tips don’t work, try inserting your SIM card into another phone to see if the problem is with your SIM card or your device. You can find more information about using your phone abroad here.

If you're still not able to connect after that, could you please reply to the DM I sent you and let me know in this thread? That way, I or another moderator can take a look at your issue behind the scenes!

Hi Anouk, thanks a lot for your help.
I tried another phone and the Odido sim worked.
The issue is in the phone. It seems that the phone was blocked from connecting to any Egyptian networks as it was supposed to be registered
