I can't receive SMS anymore while abroad

I’m not receiving any texts for no reason. It still worked 2 months ago. I’ve been in China for around 3 months for business.

Example: I requested a OTP message at around 4pm today, but nothing received until now.

Do you know what is going on?

Hi  @Yonghao, thank you so much! I don’t see any active blocks. So, I’d like to have this investigated, but I do need the full details first.

Could you please let me know whether this is only about receiving SMS, or if sending SMS sometimes doesn’t work either? Also: can you not receive any text messages at all, or is it only from a specific number/sender? And is everything else working normally (calling and mobile data)?

If nothing works at all, we may also need to consider the reason that @eric mentioned. Could you confirm whether the issue is really only about receiving SMS messages?

Hi Demy,

It suddenly works now. I just took the sim card out and put it back again. No idea why, but lucky me. Thanks for checking it tho.

Have a nice day,

Yonghao

Hi Yonghao, how awesome that you’re in China! Of course, I’d love for you to be able to receive text messages again as soon as possible.

Could you let me know whether this is only about receiving SMS, or if sending sometimes doesn’t work either? And can’t you receive any text messages at all, or is it only from a specific number? Is everything else working normally (calling and mobile data)?

To rule a few things out, could you also check the following on your phone:

  • Restart your phone once.
  • Check whether your phone’s software is up to date.
  • Reset your network settings.
    • Android: Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings
    • iPhone: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings
(Please note you’ll need to reconnect your devices afterwards.)
  • Check whether the APN name is set correctly. It should be internet.mobiel. If it says something else, please change it manually in your phone’s settings.

If this doesn’t help, I’m happy to look into it with you. I’ve just sent you a private message to verify your details. Once the verification is completed, we’ll continue in this topic. We do this so that there’s always a colleague available to help you. I’m looking forward to your private message!

For anything else—such as questions or additional information—we’re happy to help you in the topic. Please share all questions and updates here, not via private messages.

Thank you for your patience! We’ll make sure you’re helped as quickly as possible.

Hi @Yonghao

Regulation varies significantly by country. Brazil, Turkey, Nigeria, China and India prohibit permanent roaming or make it practically impossible through regulation. When your sim has been more than 2 months in China, there is a change that it will be blocked in the local networks there.

Hi Yonghao, thanks for sending the information. I’m going to help you! I’ve sent you a verification code by email. Could you share the code with me here?

(The verification code is a one-time code we send to your registered phone number or email address as a final check. No one can do anything with this code; it’s only to protect your details and subscription. We ask you to share the code in the topic so any moderator can see the verification is complete. That way your topic stays active and a colleague can help you quickly, even if I’m not available.)
