The latest Odido app on our AppleTV always has audio description on, both for live TV and recorded programs. Changing the options doesn’t help.

This is really annoying...

Hi @Jim1234567890, I would love to solve this for you to make sure you will be able to watch tv normally! Does this appear on all channels or is it only specific channels which show the audio description?

Can you double check that the subtitle settings in the menu are either set on standard or turned completely off? Also if you change the subtitle settings, do they stay the same or do they change back to the previous selected option?

Hi. As far as I can tell, this is for all channels (they are all marked as AL on the programme guide).

Subtitles are normally off, but if I turn them on then they do appear.

I have only 2 options on say, BBC One, for audio: English, Audio Description. It doesn’t matter which I choose, I still get the AD. This is the case for both live and recorded programmes.

The Options menu remembers all settings, it’s just not changing anything for the audio settings.

Audio descriptions are also turned off in the AppleTV options, btw

Thank you for all the information @Jim1234567890! Have you already tried to delete the app completely and reinstall it? If this doesn't work, I will send this to my colleagues from the technical department so that they can investigate this. In this case can you please tell me the type number of your AppleTV? And since when has this problem started? Lastly I want to ask you if you are able to film the audio description and to show the audio settings in this video. This way my colleagues from the technical department can immediately verify the problem and start the investigation for you. You can upload the file to WeTransfer and share the link in this topic, so we can access the video. Thank you so much!

Reinstalling didn’t help. I’m not quite sure what the video will prove, but here it is https://we.tl/t-7JXRcC8zBO

The problem is quite straighforward to explain. The audio description is always on for all programmes which are marked with AL. The audio settings make no difference. An exception was Countryfile yesterday (13/10/2024) on BBC One, which seemed OK. We foolishly thought it was fixed 😞 But it is back to being always on again today.
This is also an issue on recorded programmes that we recorded before we started having the problem. In fact I watched the first half of one programme without AD, then when I came back to it a couple of days later, AD started. Clearly there is now something always on somewhere.

The AppleTV is a model A1842 with 32G of RAM. The problem seemed to start on 10/10/2024, when I think the AppleTV updated itself to tvOS 18.0 (22J357).

Audio Descriptions are also turned off on the AppleTV itself, so only the Odido app has this problem.

Is there any more news on this? The app still has this annoying problem..

Hi @Jim1234567890, the download has expired, could you please share the video again? I think your thread went into the wrong bin and we missed it. My apologies.

I will post it again, but I will stress that it is really, really, really not necessary. To suggest that you “need to verify the problem’ is to suggest that I’m lying to you. I have given you all the information you need already, and this is a pitiful excuse to not do anything about it.

Could you delete the app and reinstall it @Jim1234567890? The video is for our technical department so that they can reproduce it.

As noted earlier in this thread, I have already done the delete/reinstall thing. And they DO NOT need the video because I was very careful to give a full description of the problem. I know this because (1) I am also a programmer and I know what I want when I get a bug report and (2) there is nothing in the video that I have not already mentioned

Is there any update on this? Jim isn’t the only one with this problem: we’ve noticed it too.

Everything we watch on BBC 1 & BBC 2 (as far as I can tell/have found these are the only channels where this happens) has audio description on and there seems to be no way to turn it off. This is very annoying.

  • Apple TV A2737 (4K, 2022), running tvOS 18.0 (although the problem started before I updated from the previous version)
  • Odido TV App 1.6.0

Changing the language settings of the Odido app from Dutch to English (or back) doesn’t do anything. Audio description is turned OFF in Apple TV settings.

In the Odido TV App (2.5.2) on my iPhone 15Pro running iOS 18.0.1 this problem does not occur. I can’t help but notice the iOS app has a lot more options and functionalities than the tvOS app; why is the tvOS version so bare bones?

It is currently under investigation by the supplier. Hopefully we will have more info on this soon!

@Jim1234567890 and @ThijsRe A new version of the Odido TV app for Apple TV is currently in development. You can find more information about the app and how to install the beta through the link below. Does this issue also occur in the new app?

@TMTV Thanks! I’ve found and installed the beta through Testflight. I can’t speak for @Jim1234567890, but my first experience is the problem doesn’t occur there. And I can easily turn it on or off if I do ever want or need it.

So again: thanks a lot for your reply! I’ll keep on using the beta version of the app for now.

Hi, I have this exact same problem on my Odido app. Also using the app on Apple TV. Cannot turn the audio description off on BBC, no matter what I do. It’s been like this for 3 or 4 weeks now. I hope this can be fixed soon, it’s really annoying!

I’ve been away for a few days. I cannot get the code for Testflight so I can’t test it. The link is invalid now

Is there any more word on this? It has been weeks now and the issue is still not resolved.

@Jim1234567890 Can you check which version of the Odido TV app is currently installed on your Apple TV? You can check this in the app via Account > Settings > About. It should be 1.6.1. According to the release notes in the App Store, the problem is resolved in this version. I can't check this, as I was never able to reproduce this issue in the first place.
