Replacing odido equipment with my own

So I have been having issues with WiFi on Zyxel T-56, they sent me another one, and couple weeks later it’s same garbage

issues I’m experiencing 5G works only if you sit next to Zyxel T-56, if you move 1-2 meters connection starts breaking, 2G is more stable but slower, and has a bit more stable range, but still after about 5m distance from Zyxel T-56 or wall in between it’s unstable

has anyone replaced Zyxel T-56 with own Cisco or MikroTik equipment and what’s the process to do it?

I got myself Mikrotik hAP ax^3

what setup I need to run in console to get it working instead of Zyxel ?

You need to configure the full Mikrotik to replace the Zyxel. Maybe a guide like this might help you https://github.com/Eigenrouter/eigenrouter/blob/main/guides/mikrotik/t-mobile/Mikrotik-Internet-only.md

Technically any Mikrotik setup guide will work as long as you use VLAN 300 for the WAN interface.

My system is based on a Fritzbox 4060 with wired repeaters on each floor. Runs very stable and easy to install/maintain.

no experience with cisco or microtik.

Hello @Domagoj

VLAN 300 and connection type DHCP is the only requirement.

Replacing the router seems to be the wrong approach.

Your problem is with WIFI connections, not the router.  The T56 may not be perfect, but 2 T56 acting devices acting as AP showing exactly the same extreme symptoms and behaviour is very unlikely. The T56 is not definitely not that bad.

That the problems show up with increasing distance suggests that the problem is not the internet connection, but something else:

  • to be sure: what kind of connection do you have: fiber or dsl?
  • What endpoint shows the problem? One or mutiple?
  • Are there other devices connected to the network?
  • Any electrically noisy devices(like magnetron, big motors) in the neigborhood of theT56

And to answer your question: I am using a Mikrotik device as router with some Unifi APs. I have had a Unifi edgerouter and a T54 as routers before. I settled on my current setup to reduce the number of devices in my network.   My 10G switch also acts as router (working perfectly for my 2Gb fiber connection).

For WIFI I use my pre-existing Unifi APs. I have seen people using Deco setups with success.

In your case adding a wifi extender (or whatever Odido calls them nowadays) preferably hard wired may solve your problems too

My conclusion so far: investigate what causes the poor WIFI you experience before investigating replacement.
