Replace Zyxel router with a Ubiquiti Dream Router 7

Hi everyone,

I currently have Odido Fiber with AON and I’m using the Zyxel router provided by Odido, connected to the Odido fiber converter/ONT.

I would like to replace the Zyxel with a Ubiquiti Dream Router 7 (UDR7) and use it as my main router.

I’m not an expert in networking, so I’d really appreciate some guidance on the correct setup.

My questions are:

  1. Can I completely replace the Zyxel with the UDR7 while keeping the Odido fiber converter/ONT?
  2. If so, how should I connect and configure the UDR7 for Odido AON?
  3. Do I need to use the SFP+ port on the UDR7, or can I simply connect the Ethernet output from the Odido fiber converter to the 2.5 GbE WAN port of the UDR7?
  4. Are there any specific VLAN, DHCP, or other WAN settings I need to configure for Odido?
  5. Is there anything else I should be aware of when removing the Zyxel router?

I’m mainly interested in a simple and reliable setup. I don't necessarily want to connect the fiber directly to the UDR7 if keeping the existing Odido converter is easier.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello @cucumbersome

You can completely remove the Zyxel router, connect the cable from the ONT to the WAN port of your router and configure VLAN 300 DHCP with ipv6 turned off. After a restart of the ONT internet should work.

You'll need to connect the Zyxel again when Odido needs to check your connection because of a problem.

Hi @Waqqas thank you for your reply

After everything is plugged in and configured, can I just restart the ONT and then the router to get it working seamlessly?

You'll need to connect the Zyxel again when Odido needs to check your connection because of a problem.

Are you saying that I should keep the router in case Odido needs to check any issue with my network?

@cucumbersome

Yes.

Yes because Odido can't provide assistance when you have your own router connected.
