How hard it can setup new router Flint 3 (GL-BE9300)?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, really excited to learn from all of you🙂.

I would genuienly appreciate your thoughts on how complex/challenging it can be to replace to Zyxel EX5601-T1 with Flint 3 (GL-BE9300) . The replacement router has lot to offer. However the configuration complexity and not getting true/somewhat near 1GBPS on WIFI is something that’s putting me off.  Once  Flint 3 (GL-BE9300) is fully configured and stable, The idea is to get slate 7 later so to have same home IP when I am away from home. Lastly, use static IP if at all possible.

Feel free to comment out anything if anything is not clear.

Truly appreciate your time, efforts and feedback.

I’m not that familiar with the Flint devices from GL.iNet.

You first need to “create” a device for the VLAN. Then you need to select that device (assign it) to the WAN port. If it’s similar to GL-AX1800 then this topic can help:

  • Open the router settings via http://192.168.8.1/ and log in with your password.
  • Go to System, open Advanced Settings (Luci), and log in again with your password.
  • You need to create a new device under Network → Interfaces → Devices tab → Add Device with the following settings:
    - Device type: VLAN 802.1q
    - Base device: eth0
    - VLAN ID (for Odido): 300
    - Device name (for Odido): eth0.300
    - MTU: 1500
    - MAC address (from the ISP-provided router): printed on the label on the box and on the bottom of the Zyxel router
    * Save and close
  • Then, in WAN settings (under Network → Interfaces → Edit WAN), choose DHCP and select the newly added device eth0.300. Click Apply and Close.
  • Finally, reboot the router.

@MohitNehru These documentation from GL.iNet might help you as well https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/en/4/interface_guide/internet_ethernet/

Hi @MohitNehru,

To replace the T56 with the Flint3, you will need to set the WAN to DHCP with VLAN300.

From what I see in the their docs that can be done via;

  • Connect the Flint 3 to the ONT instead of the T56
  • On the left side of web Admin Panel -> INTERNET -> Ethernet section.
  • Click on Modify for the WAN port
  • There are 3 types of protocols, DHCP, Static, PPPoE. Click Modify to change., Make its set to DHCP

  • Scroll a bit down and in VLAN ID field enter 300

  • Hit Apply

If this does not work, can you explain more what you are trying to do and what does not work for you.

Last Friday I used my Slate7 as the Zyxel replacement. Both my Flint3’s are in bridgemode. The Slate7 has several Wireguard Server profiles for my devices on the go. The Slate7 is in the 192.168.1.x range. This to have no problems with my HomeAssistant setup.
