I purchased a 30 day 18 gb plan for japan two days ago. Roaming is allowed, no payment plans or debts. I am not able to connect to the two network providers always mentioned here.

Quite disappointing. my wife using an esimcard from different providers has no issue. Just odido causing troubles again.

Hi madwolfgang, Japan is on my list for next year, so I'm jealous. Obviously you want and need your network there, I'm happy to look into your account and see what's going on. Please reply to my DM (Webcare Moderator), and I'll have a look and see if there's any barrings on roaming, so I can remove them. If there's not any barrings, please also try the following:

  • Turn on roaming.
  • What happens if you manually select one of these networks in Japan: KDDI Corporation, NTT Docomo en Softbank Corp.

I look forward to your reply!

The dataplan had no influense on the fact that you can connect to a Japanse network. A barring for roaming,  by payment or voluntary in the Odido app is probably the case. It will take some days via this forum to figure that out by a moderator. If you need to have a dataconnection directly, you can use simwallet. This uses a new esim which you can download via wifi.

Hi Marciano, thanks for your message. I sent you a DM.

Roaming is activated on the phone.

When manually connecting to one of those, then I get the error "unable to connect"

Good afternoon, thank you for your DM. I've looked into your account and I see a roaming barring (on your own request). I've removed it. Please check if you can connect to the networks there now. If it doesn't work in 10 minutes, please restart your phone. Please let me know! 😊

Hello, I had only blocked receiving calls and texts (not internet according to the website description) to avoid charges when receiving texts. Now that you have removed it, I have received text messages from Odido. Will I be charged for this?

Hi @madwolfgang ,

Receiving text messages is always free. Premium sms , services you have opted IN for, are charged rather you are in NL or in Japan.

Hi madwolfgang, the barrings that were in the system were for international roaming. This includes data, call and sms. I can block the following things for you, please let me know:

  • International calls
  • Service calls
  • Service 0900/0909 calls
  • International incoming calls
  • International outgoing calls to the Netherlands
  • All outgoing calls

Receiving normal SMS is free, like @eric says
