Foreign (Iranian) SIMs refused on Odido 3G and 4G in the Netherlands: did inbound roaming change?

Hi,

I'm visiting the Netherlands with two Iranian SIM cards, MCI (432-11) and Irancell (432-35). The MCI card roamed on T-Mobile NL / Odido for several years, most recently about a year ago. Now neither card can register.

The phone finds Odido cells with good signal and the network rejects the registration:

3G, voice: reject cause 13, "roaming not allowed in this location area"

3G, data: reject cause 7, "GPRS services not allowed"

4G: reject cause 15, "no suitable cells in tracking area"

KPN and Vodafone are not roaming partners for these cards, so Odido is the only option.

My questions:

1) Has Odido changed or ended inbound roaming for MCI or Irancell?

2) Is inbound roaming on 3G being restricted ahead of the 3G shutdown?

3) Is 4G inbound roaming supported for these operators?

I understand you can't look up a foreign line. I'm only asking whether something changed on Odido's side, so I know what to ask my home operator.

Thanks!

Hi @iamalireza, thank you so much for your patience! We have received an update now! We have checked everything on our end of the network and we can confirm that we have not ended or changed the inbound roaming agreement for MCI or Irancell. I can also confirm that 3G is not being restricted and 4G is supported.

My colleague says that the errors he has seen are coming from Iran networks and we cannot control that. There is something from both providers which is blocking a connection on our network. The best course of action is to contact them and see if they can open an investigation for you to see what the cause is.

Will you let me know if you were able to solve this?

Hi iamalireza, welcome to the Netherlands! Those are really good, but technical questions. I wish I could answer them myself, but I can't. However I'm happy to forward this to the right department. I've already contacted them, and they've asked me to open a case about this. I've sent you a DM via Webcare Moderator. Please reply to me there, so I can open this case for you and my colleagues will investigate it as soon as possible! 😊

Thanks, Marciano! I haven't received the DM. My forum inbox is empty and no email arrived either. Could you resend it? My private messages are open to everyone.

My bad! 😅 I've sent you the DM now. I look forward to your reply. There's a lot of requested information. Please let me know if you have any questions about some of them.  I've already filled in a little bit. And I'm happy to explain a few things already:

  • IMSI: You can probably leave this one empy
  • Postpaid/Prepaid: Do you have a subscription (Postpad) or Prepaid?
  • Ported Number: You can leave this one empy
  • Cross check: Do you have someone with you that you can ask for help: we always want to test if your sim card works in another phone. And if someone else's sim card works in your phone.

Hi Marciano, thanks again for opening INC0931414. It has been about a week, so I wanted to check in: has your colleague been able to find anything yet? Happy to provide more details or run a test if that helps.
