What type of fiber connection do I have?

Hi,

I currently use my own router instead of the provided Zyxel, using VLAN 300 to have it wired directly to the ethernet cable from the media converter.

I would like to upgrade my router to the Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Fiber. It has SPF+ ports, so I'll be able to remove the media converter to simplify my setup. The thing is though, my understanding after researching here in the community is that I need to get the right SPF module, and this can be different depending on the type of my fiber (AON, GPON, XGS-PON, etc).

I called the customer service to ask which kind of fiber I have. But the person I spoke with seemed confused about it, and later on said it's XGS-PON. However, based on pictures of fiber connections similar to mine in this community, and also due to the fact that my connection is 1gbps, I believe it's not XGS-PON (I understood only faster fibers are XGS-PON, and even though faster speeds are available at my address, my subscription is 1gbps).

How can I confirm which kind of fiber I have in order to buy the correct SPF module that allows me to remove the existing media converter from my setup?

Hello @andre3d

This is an AON mediaconverter so you have an AON connection.
