Issues of 5G modem NR5307 for Kilk&Klaar: 5Gbps WiFi signal keeps disappear (+ Sim Card is not detected)

Can share a little bit more information about the 5Ghz Wifi disappearing, so I can dive a little deeper into it for you. . Like for example; 

• Does the 2.4Ghz keep working when the 5Ghz stops? 
• Are none of your devices able to see the Wifi network?

Yes, 2.4Ghz keeps working.

Yes, none of my devices are able to see the 5Ghz WiFi, so I conclude that the 5G modem may have some issues.

The 5G modem is set so that 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz WiFi are separated by disabling mesh. At many moments, the device is connected to 2.4 GHz WiFi, and I need to make sure that the connection is on the level of 5 GHz for high-speed transfer—including 4K streaming. 2.4 GHz does not have enough bandwidth, and last week, I spent a few hours examining the issue of the stuttering streaming only to find that 2.4 GHz WiFi instead of 5 GHz is used. 

Therefore, I separated 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz WiFi, and the phenomenon that 5GHz keeps missing may explain why devices keep connecting to 2.4Ghz when 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz WiFi are merged.

Before starting using Klik&Klaar and its 5G modem, I had been using the very stable Asus RT-AC68U for a decade.

If you connect you Asus with a cable to the Zyxel and set this up as an Access Point (AP) than you can use your old , fine working system. In the Asus you disable DHCP and in the Zyxel you disable all Wifi.

Oh, this will make things too complicated for me. First of all, I have given the old router away to a colleague who just moved into his new place. Secondly, The old router does not support WiFi 6, and the signal coverage (5Ghz) is not as good as the WiFi in the Zyxel modem in my environment, as I observed. The modem/router is placed upstairs due to the internet signal (5G is very good, but downstairs, 5G is very weak), and many devices are used downstairs.

That’s why I prefer using a properly functioning Zyxel 5G modem.

Last Friday, I called Odido, and one of your colleagues told me a ticket had been created and that I needed to wait for a reply from the technical team. During that call, the main complaint was that the 5G modem had no internet connection. A day after the call, I found out that there was poor physical contact between the SIM card and the 5G modem. I did not know why this happened – the internet connection disappeared suddenly the night before the call to Odido.

Last Sunday, I fixed the SIM card's poor contact issue by pasting three layers of duct tape to the back of the SIM card, so it is “thick enough” to contact the 5G modem sufficiently. Of course, it becomes rather tight to insert the SIM card into the 5G modem. After doing this, the internet connection came back; up to now, there has been no more internet connection loss.

This poor physical contact may be due to the 5G modem's SIM slot design. The SIM card is not thinner than other SIM cards, and placing it in the phone functions normally. Perhaps the future version of this modem should use the phone’s SIM slot design instead.

The persistent issue of 5Ghz WiFi disappearing from the Zyxel 5G modem is still present, and all of those led me to submit this topic to the Odido community.

Did you put the simcard in the black tray that come out of the sim slot on the modem? 

Of course, I always do that. Otherwise, it would be very difficult to get the SIM card out again. The SIM card (with three layers of tape at the back) is placed into the black tray, and together then inserted into the SIM slot.

Here I add some extra observation of the 5G modem’s performance.

5Ghz WiFi is unstable and seems to be burdened by something; the iPad Pro 11 (2020, supports WiFi 6) and Phone (Android 14, supports WiFi 7) are next to the modem, but the web browsing experience is not smooth; the speed test result also supports this: https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/10472255248

Either it is a hardware issue, or it is something yet to be optimized.

Suddenly, the 5G modem had no internet when I was about to start a live streaming session.

Now, I am using my phone’s internet.

When the SIM card is removed from the modem and placed into the phone, there is no 5G or 4G signal. Is it the issue of the base station?

The past 15 days have witnessed some instability.

I submitted my case last Friday but have not received a formal response yet.

I would like to receive the formal response as soon as possible via the Odido community (here in this thread or in a private message) or email.

If Odido has any questions about this case, please leave them here or via private message or email, and I will respond as soon as possible. 

A telephone call is much less preferred because the people in Odido who call me are essentially unreachable. When I miss a call, they won’t call twice, and I cannot call back immediately—it is unfair ;-), and this only brings more hassle.
 

I had the same problem this morning, it took a 5 till10 minutes before the connection was ready. 

In the meantime im still looking into your problem that the 5Ghz wifi drops in performance. It will take some time to replicate and debug the problem on our side. 

Thank you for letting me know that you also experienced something similar. Forty minutes have passed, and there is still no 4G/5G signal. The SIM card has been placed in two different 5G phones, but no luck. Vodafone 5G/4G functions normally. Hope this problem will be gone soon.

Quick update on the dropping wifi performance. We where are to replicate and see similar behavoir. Its been reported to Zyxel to get it fixed. 

It is good to know that this issue is not unique to the modem I am using. I hope this is not hardware-related and that a firmware update can solve it. In the past week, I have not been at home often. The day before yesterday, I was, and I encountered the dropped performance of 5Ghz WiFi twice. Fortunately, I can use cable ethernet for a stable connection for now.
