Fiber constantly dropping connection multiple times per day, after a network upgrade in October 2024

Hi everyone en excuses voor het Engels maar het gaat een beetje makkelijker voor mij zijn in EN te schrijven :-)

I’ve been a customer of Odido having a 1Gbps FTTH connection in Heiloo which was working flawlessly even with my own router/mesh network up until a wider (Odido) network maintenance that took place in October 2024 (I didn’t keep the notification email sadly).

Since that upgrade/maintenance of the network which happened during night hours, I’ve been having constant disconnects multiple times per day (roughly every 30’).

As part of my experiment to rule out any issues on my own router/mesh network, I tried putting back, in November, the Odido provided router in the meterkast but the problem persists.

I’ve been reading a bunch of posts here and some folks seem to be referring to the different ONTs; I have a Huawei one but I don’t know if a swap to a Nokia one would do the trick.

The reason for waiting this long with reporting it is due to my work; I was traveling since then and therefore wasn’t an issue (aside from the constant notifications from my cameras/alarm), but as I’ll be returning to NL this week and staying there for the upcoming months, I will need to figure out what’s the deal and have a working network. :-)

Any advice or support (especially from the Odido team) would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello @Kkout

The Nokia ONT only works on the KPN network, since you have a Huawei ONT you must be on the Open Dutch Fiber network or on the KPN ODF network.

Have you tried another cable between ONT and router? Does this issue also occur when de Odido router is connected and just a laptop/pc is connected with a wired connection?

Hey @Waqqas sadly I didn’t keep the email about the maintenance and I don’t remember if there was going to be a swap to the KPN network in my area or not; I recall reading about it but I’m not 100% sure it was the case for my connection.

The network drops happen even when my router or the Odido provided one are directly to the ONT (I’ve proactively changed the ETH cable there). The issue is not on the wifi, the router (both mine or the Oddo one) are losing connectivity on their WAN interface. Initially I also thought that this was due to a cable I’m using from the MK to where I want the router but that doesn’t seem to be the problem.

I’ve tried rebooting the router / ONT but the problem is only resolved momentarily.

Also when the problem occurs, if I do nothing (which is the case while traveling) within 5-10’ it fixes itself until it breaks again about 20-30’ later and fixes itself and so on so forth.

Sadly as I’m not back in NL yet (returning during the weekend), I can’t take a dump of the logs from my router with the exact errors that I see on the WAN interface.
