@packetlife Re issues 1, 2 and 3: these are really strange and seem to suggest something wrong with the router. Just to be sure: how is the power supply connected to your 230V mains? I hope not via a dimmer? I ask because the issues seem to suggest some interference. Any other equipent on the same breaker that could cause isues with interference?
I have asked a moderator to send an engineer to see what is happening.
Re using the RBK852: I do not know these devices, and did a quick check but could not find much informationm regarding WAN setup.
If you can set WAN to use VLAN300 with DHCO this is definately possible. Otherwise, if it does not, you could add a managed switch between the ONT and the RBK852 that can take care of the VLAN handling. Some time ago I have written a topic (in Dutch unfortunately) that could help you:
@louisL thank you for the reply.

The router is installed in the meter cabinet (meterkast) and its power is connected into a power extension strip.
the ONT is also installed in the meter cabinet.
i rebooted the router a couple of days ago and the stale lan connection it was showing disappeared.
I have not yet tested it again by connecting a lan cable and removing it. I plan to do that by this weekend.
Hi all
this zyxel router doesn’t seem very nice.
before rebooting this router today (after an uptime of more than 5 or 6 days)
I noticed, that the router showed it has wired connections (more than 1 ) connected
when i clicked its wired internet page to see what devices - those devices were actually wireless devices.
------
so - now i have got a orbi rbk852 with one satellite and i intend to remove the zyxel and use orbi as the router.
Q1 : has anyone configured orbi by directly connecting it to the ONT / Media converter?
Q2: I attempted on setting up orbi just now but it asked me to unplug the modem/router and then connect the orbi router with ethernet, which i did. but then i don’t see the option to specify vlan 300 for the wan port.
the orbi mobile app was only showing ‘static ip setup’ or ppoe setup. (this is when i connected the orbi to the small white device with an ethernet cable (which i believe is the Media converter)
Q3: on the zyxel i see i get two IPs assigned, one is a public subnet and the other is a 10.x subnet. do i need to assign these to the orbi or ?
thanks
I guess that these devices are connected through an Orbi connected to the Zyxel? If so: the Zyxel sees them coming in on the wired connection from the Orbi...
Odido uses VLAN 300 on the WAN connection for internet (the 10.x.y.z address is only relevant for the Zyxel for remote management on VLAN100). So you need to set you WLAN to VLAN 300 with DHCP, automatic (not PPPOE) or whatever your router uses.
I am not able to fid if the Orbi supports VLANs on the WAN side. Netgear support for VLANs is recent and I could not find if it supports VLANS for the WAN side.
Anyhow, if it does, set the WAN to VLAN 300 with DHCP and you’re all set when you connect the WAN port to the media converter/ ONT
thank you all for the guidance and help @louisL.
So, i did the following (setting up orbi):
1 - Lan cable , plugged it in orbi lan port (not the yellow wan port)
2 - the computer's nic got an ip-address on 192.168.1.0/32 subnet
3 - i then browsed to 192.168.1.1 and netgear page opened, it asked for the admin password to be set up
4 - i then checked the firmware version and it was something like 2.x.x
5 - i then went into advanced setup > vlans > vlan by tag and set the vlan to 300 for all wired ports and wired.
i did not see an option to set the vlan for WAN port only
6 - once i did that, i clicked update / apply and it just kept spining for like 10 mintues
7 - i then noticed my computer had an apipa / 169 ipaddr
8 - well, i then thought may be it's due to the vlan, so i setup a vlan interface with vlan 300 but that didn't help
9 - i then did a orbi router and satellite reset
POST RESET:
1 - i then browsed to 192.168.1.1
2 - i went to the vlan page (advanced > vlan > vlan by tag and edited the default vlan it already had , set the vlan id to 300 and priority to 0 and included all wired ports and wireless in it)
3 - orbi router found the satellite as well
4 - i then clicked update / apply and this time it worked
5 - i then powered off the media-converter and of course the old router
6 - plugged the ethernet cable from the media converter to orbi router wan port
7 - it worked and internet was connected successfully
Post going online:
- orbi prompted for firmware upgrade and i upgraded the firmware via the orbi app and it was automatically done on both router and the satellite
so far (almost 24 hours now) it seems to be running stable
One more question :-)
a) is it safe to have all ethernet lan ports and wireless devices on vlan 300 of the orbi router?
thank you
